14th July 1987.
Dear Sir,
K. C. Booth
Kim Booth joined Xionics Ltd in May 1981as a Hardware
Engineer. By the time he left in November 1984 he was graded
as Senior Systems Designer.
Although initially employed as a hardware engineer, he
rapidly developed a talent for software and was, by the time
he left, a highly competent 'C' and Assembly Language
programmer.
Kim worked on a number of projects during his time with
Xionics. Two where of particular note:
He designed and implemented the hardware and much of
the software for a digital voice messaging system to run
on the Xionics local area network. Although for commercial
reasons the system was not eventually put into volume
manufacture, it was successfully and used at a number of
customer sites including the Cabinet Office in
Whitehall.
He re-wrote utilities which had been written to run on
the Xionics workstation (under a propietory operating
system) to allow them to run on the IBM PC. The way in
which this work was carried out was a model of its kind;
it is still of value today and is still widely
praised.
Kim was an excellent colleague on both personal and
professional levels. He is pleasant, reliable and highly
intelligent with a wide range of interests and abilities. I
have no hesitation in recommending him to any employer.
Yours faithfully,
A.K.H. Miller
